Deco’s downtown update
No wan, white-on-white kitchens for Amanda Jesse (left) and Whitney Parris-Lamb. The Brooklyn-based duo behind Jesse Parris-Lamb devise creative, highly personal design solutions, like this Deco-inspired cook space in a landmarked Beaux Arts building in Soho. When their clients expressed a love for the Chrysler Building, the designers went on a deep dive for work by “early twentieth-century OG designers” — and found plenty to draw on. “It’s especially interesting to see how Art Deco forms and motifs still influence contemporary furniture designers,” they observe. The custom island, wrapped in fluted and bent metal was inspired by a vintage cocktail shaker. It finds its perfect decorative foils in Wyeth’s swivel bar stools with chocolate leather seats and a vase by Ming Yuen-Schat.
“We believe that a thoughtfully designed environment improves day-to-day life.”
