Cultures and eras blended in delightful harmony
By any measure, this room is a full-on craft caravan, propelled by its energetic creator and owner, Laura Gonzalez. Gonzalez is not shy about layering materials and cultures, and she does so here with aplomb. Chinese porcelain, Danish furniture (the Mogens Lassen wing chair) and influences from India, Spain and Italy animate her home outside Paris, which also showcases pieces she designed for her Pravda Collection: custom upholstered chairs and a marble table. But the liveliest elements are the twin fireplaces, rendered in ivory clay by French artisan Laurent Dufour. “The bear and the monkey bring a really strong feeling, with a twist of humor,” says Gonzalez with winking understatement. “I believe design is an art de vivre.”
“Good design involves layering cultural inspirations, and finding the right balance of elements that bring soul and harmony to a space.”
