GACHOT
Setting the Stage in a Manhattan Loft
Working on a Manhattan loft for a client who was eager to embrace color as a backdrop for an extensive collection of art, Christine and John Gachot, of Gachot Studios, knew they needed to select furniture that would hold its own with such strong partners. In the living room area presided over by Maysha Mohamedi’s abstract painting and a totemic sculpture by Jason Bailer Losh, a grandly proportioned daybed and two custom sofas (the green velvet one had to be hoisted in parts through a window and assembled on site) converse happily with a pair of charred-teak coffee tables from Andrianna Shamaris and a vintage brass table lamp from Bernd Goeckler. The area’s centerpoint? A 1960s painted bronze-and-pewter Chan cocktail table by father-son duo Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, which was found on 1stDibs. “The etched details and sweeping curves are simply beautiful,” says John Gachot. “The table adds the perfect splash of intrigue and whimsy to the space.”
