Formarch Architecture + Interiors

Sophisticated, Livable Modernism

Drawing inspiration from mid-century greats, Formarch Architecture + Interiors principals Brent Leonard, right, and Sean Webb design contemporary residences that are as stylish as they are livable. Crafted moments of millwork and red-cedar trims impart to this East Hampton beach house a subtle Japanese sensibility evocative of the designs of George Nakashima. In the main living area, a dialogue between curved furnishings, such as Formarch’s thin steel table, the vintage rattan lounge chair and the Mario Bellini molded-fiberglass coffee table, and angular forms, like Martin Eisler’s dining chairs, the ’60s Swedish pendant lamp and the Guy Besnard armchair, all 1stDibs finds, adds rhythm and interest. But just as critical to the design is “space,” says Leonard — “space between pieces, so they all have room to breathe, and space for people to live.”
