Hines Collective

A Tribeca Viewing Room, with a View

For the media room of a Tribeca penthouse, the team behind Hines Collective knew they’d be weighing aesthetics against functionality. Fortunately, there was no need to favor one over the other. A sinuously curved sofa designed to deliver high drama was meticulously calibrated to the right height, depth and pitch for watching dramas. The oxblood-velvet-upholstered ceiling and upper walls match seamlessly with the lacquered paint of the lower walls and frame the sweeping city views. When the curtains are drawn, notes firm founder Devin Hines (second from right, with firm partners, from left, Kerry Offsey, Natalia Ramirez and Lindsey Reese), the pairing creates an enveloping cocoon that “amplifies the viewing experience,” not just of the wide-screen TV but also of such standout 1stDibs-sourced pieces as the silk-shaded ceiling light fixture by Aqua Creations, a 1930s Thonet H269 armchair by Jindrich Halabala and an Art Deco rug from Doris Leslie Blau. Of the hammered-gold bar’s oh-so-’70s Sherle Wagner Swan faucet, also a 1stDibs treasure, Hines says, “Every element plays into the wow factor.”
