Robert Stilin, LLC

Warm, Classic and Modern

All photos by Stephen Kent Johnson

“Crisp, clean lines” is a phrase often used when describing a Robert Stilin interior. Stilin is known, as well, for the warm, easy, elegant way he mixes antique and vintage furnishings with modern and contemporary art. That flair for eclectic sophistication is on show in the bedroom of his own East Hampton house. A distinguished collection of paintings, photographs and works on paper, hung salon style around the bed, catches the eye, but what gives the room its strong, simple structure is a pair of Deco-era Walligraph Zonalite articulated desk lamps that Stilin discovered on 1stDibs. They sit on two vintage Thonet restaurant host stands he cleverly uses as bedside tables  — also 1stDibs finds. “Every piece is intriguing in its own right,” notes Stilin. “But together, they play off one another to create a room that is as relaxing and chill as it is alive.”
