With the ocean as its backdrop and color springboard, the living room of a Mediterranean-style house in Palm Beach by Jessica Schuster Design manifests calmness. “The room features a blend of styles, pairing custom contemporary sofas with a French mid-century vibe,” says Schuster, who is known for interiors with a luxurious yet approachable style. The sofas’ differing silhouettes — one ever so slightly V-shaped, the other with a curved and dipped back — offer variations on a theme and add a touch of couture to the room. “They’re like nothing we’ve ever designed before,” Schuster notes. Overhead, instead of the expected single light source, a quartet of Josef Hoffmann/Wiener Werkstätte Woka lamps from 1stDibs float like upside-down jellyfish, “creating a dynamic and layered ambience,” says the designer. A pair of mid-century chairs, also from 1stDibs, are covered in a blush Rogers & Goffigon mohair velvet. Set before a wall of windows with delicate light-diffusing draperies, the furnishings, says Schuster, “exude a luxe, inviting feel that blends elegance with relaxation.”
