High above the bustle of Manhattan is a soothing space designed by Connecticut-based Hendricks Churchill. Serving as a music room, media room and cocktail lounge, it is equally comfortable accommodating guests on formal occasions and family members on lazy Sunday mornings. “While we had to fulfill this multiuse program, the client was also adamant that it remain pared down and not seem crowded or cluttered,” says Heide Hendricks, who handles the firm’s interior design side while her husband, Rafe Churchill, is in charge of architecture. The couple oriented a pair of vintage Italian armchairs from 1stDibs toward the city views and combined other 1stDibs finds — a vintage onyx floor lamp from Obsolete, a sideboard by Steven Bukowski and a Silvio Piatelli chandelier — to convey a refined calm. “The expansive views of the city line are the most prominent feature of this room and inspired us to create a sophisticated urban setting that was also soft and welcoming for the family’s multigenerational home life,” Hendricks says of this gathering place, gracefully prepared for whatever life throws at it.
