Historic Central Park West Pied-à-Terre

Apartment de Jessica Gersten Design en New York, NY

Jessica Gersten and her client, Danielle Gregory, have collaborated for over 12 years, initially on Danielle’s contemporary 10,000-square-foot home outside NYC, and more recently on her classical pied-à-terre on Central Park West in Manhattan. Their longstanding relationship allowed Jessica to tap into a deeper aspect of Danielle’s personality, bringing to life a new kind of retreat that speaks to Danielle's multifaceted nature. Danielle, an accomplished jewelry designer, has long been captivated by history and is a lifelong collector of ancient artifacts. This pied-à-terre offered the perfect opportunity to integrate a rich historical narrative within a compact, urban setting.

Working closely with Danielle, Jessica thoughtfully built on her existing collection of rare items, including a 1700s horse trough, a 17th-century wall tapestry, and an Empire-style campaign chest. Jessica then carefully curated contemporary pieces that matched the craftsmanship and historical integrity of the antiques.

A Reummler floor lamp, an occasional table by Maxime Boutillier, and a large vessel by Jojo Corvaia add to the space's eclectic charm. In the bedroom, a custom slipcovered chair by Jessica pairs with a bronze floor lamp by William Guillon and a horsehair ottoman from Jessica's Lusitano collection. The bed is dressed in vintage velvet, with sconces from Blackman Cruz and a silk light fixture by Josef Hoffmann.

Jessica also collaborated with her plaster artisan to create a bespoke ancient clay plaster finish, specially designed for this apartment’s unique aesthetic.
