Mixed Use de Cochineal Design en Jersey City, NJ
In the 1960s and ‘70s, a developer in Hoboken, New Jersey converted 14 turn-of-the-century buildings into apartments. Realizing he needed to update his holdings by incorporating design and amenities, he approached us. As a way to honor the setting, we paired turn-of-the-century materials with current components and focused our design efforts on entryways, corridors, amenity spaces, staircases, kitchens, and bathrooms. In the amenity spaces, refinished haberdashery cabinetry from the 1930s, chandeliers from the ‘40s, and rugs from the ‘60s mingle with new furniture and contemporary art. The result is a nifty—yet livable—blend.
