Calman Shemi - Impressions abstraites

Calman Shemi est né en Argentine en 1939. Il a étudié la sculpture et la céramique à l'école de Mendoza en Argentine. En 1961, Shemi émigre en Israël et, en 1963, il commence à étudier la sculpture avec Rudi Lehman. Il réalise ses premières peintures "douces" en 1977. Depuis 1978, il travaille principalement en sérigraphie et en peinture acrylique. En 1999, Shemi a mis au point les techniques de peinture "windows" et "lacquer". La peinture "fenêtre" ou "shadow box" est une forme unique d'expression artistique. Shemi crée d'abord une peinture dans une boîte en bois. Une fois la peinture terminée, il fixe un cadre en bois personnalisé sur la boîte. Cette technique inhabituelle donne l'illusion de regarder le paysage ou une pièce à travers une fenêtre. Le cadre est ensuite recouvert de feuilles d'argent ou d'or et enfin laqué. Le résultat final est une œuvre d'art qui souligne le contraste entre le niveau extérieur et la peinture à l'intérieur d'un niveau plus profond.
Les peintures sur laque font également partie des créations originales de Shemi. Ces œuvres commencent généralement par un stille design abstrait ou une nature morte peints sur du bois ou sur un panneau métallique recouvert de plusieurs couches de feuilles d'or et/ou d'argent. Après le séchage de la peinture, le tableau est doré à l'aide de nombreuses couches de laque. Entre chaque couche de laque, la surface est polie à la main pour lui donner une finition métallique, ce qui donne un effet lumineux.
Fait remarquable, l'artiste Shemi a présenté 71 expositions individuelles dans le monde entier, notamment en Israël, en France, à Singapour, au Nigeria, en Australie, au Japon, au Canada, en Espagne, en Allemagne, aux États-Unis et ailleurs. Ses œuvres sont exposées au Spertus Museum of Judaica, au Fashion Institute of Chicago, à la Citibank à New York, à l'Université hébraïque de Jérusalem, pour n'en citer que quelques-unes.à
