Grace Hartigan (américaine, 1922-2008) L'œuvre de Grace Hartigan se définit par des couleurs vives, une intensité gestuelle et une synthèse frappante d'abstraction et de figuration. Figure centrale de la deuxième génération d'expressionnistes abstraits, elle embrasse à la fois la spontanéité et la structure, incorporant souvent des images tirées de la culture contemporaine, de la littérature et de la peinture historique. Hartigan a été l'une des rares femmes à s'imposer dans le mouvement, exposant dans le célèbre Ninth Street Show et devenant la première femme à bénéficier d'une exposition individuelle au Museum of Modern Art. Plus tard dans sa carrière, elle s'est installée à Baltimore, où elle a continué à peindre et à enseigner, laissant une marque indélébile sur la prochaine génération d'artistes. Bien que ses contributions aient parfois été négligées en son temps, l'approche intrépide de Hartigan en matière de peinture moderne reste un élément essentiel de l'histoire de l'art américain.à

Peter Soriano works on relatively large sheets of Japanese paper with a tendency to work from something observed, ideally around him. He tends to be “in” the configuration that is the subject of the work.
Soriano is fond of “systems” objects attached to other objects, such as the wiring plan of a room. But very often there are other shapes that play a role in the work.
The artist would fold and rework a piece a number of times. Folding seems to concentrate the dialogue that attracts him. Reworking is part of his nature. The finished work normally is the result of this ebb and flow between the heightening and repositioning the relationship between forms.
The title refers to Warren street where Soriano had his studio at that time.
