Cobble Hill Townhouse

Family Home de Bangia Agostinho Architecture D.P.C. à Brooklyn, NY

The renovation of this early 19th-century Greek Revival townhouse in the Cobble Hill Historic District strikes a careful balance between preservation and transformation, creating a home that is at once timeless and distinctly modern.

Originally one of a trio of 1830s houses, the 5,500-square-foot residence is distinguished by its corner windows, draw daylight deep into the interior and animate the progression of spaces. The design emphasizes both flexibility and intimacy, introducing informal rooms and terraces across multiple levels that adapt to the rhythms of family life. New architectural elements—moldings, doors, and hardware—were designed to harmonize with the original structure, while a material palette of rich colors, bespoke woodwork, and layered finishes grounds the interiors. Modern, vintage, and custom furniture further complements the historic setting, adding depth and character to each room. On the parlor floor, a sequence of aligned openings guides views and light through the full depth of the house, while at the rear, a rebuilt addition opens the kitchen fully to the garden with expansive sliding glass doors, extending daily life outdoors and strengthening the dialogue between past and present.
