The Northern Market
Embarking on a captivating design voyage, our recent collaboration brought the Northern Market project to life. This 720m² underground bazaar masterfully blends the charisma of Victorian times with the urban energy of a New York bistro. Nestled within a historic building originally designed by the architect George Corson, the Northern Market project is located in the vibrant heart of Leeds. This venture is a tribute to the past, embracing the echoes of Victorian charm while infusing the contemporary zest of a modern-day market.
At the core of this endeavour was a deep-seated partnership with Northern Monk, a craft brewery revered for its dedication to melding tradition with innovation. Our design team worked harmoniously with Northern Monk's visionaries to craft a space that resonates with legacy and modernity. Through supportive ideation, 3D visualisation, and curated furniture selections, we infused the market with expert insights, ensuring every design choice balanced homage to heritage and a step into the future.
The colour narrative of the space was artfully composed with brass greens and earthy browns, a palette inspired by the rich tapestry of the Victorian era, infusing the market with an aura of timeless elegance. These hues, alongside warm wood tones, set the stage for a space that is both anchored in tradition and refreshingly contemporary, honouring George Corson's architectural legacy while embracing the dynamic spirit of modern Leeds.
Furnishings were carefully chosen to reflect this dual narrative—ornate dark wood melding with sleek, brass-accented sophistication, capturing the essence of an old-world market with the polished air of a metropolitan eatery. Each piece, from the plush seating arrangements to the intricately detailed stools, was selected to harmonise historical elegance with the comfort and style of today's dining experiences.
