Informazioni sull’articolo

An iconic and rare piece of Italian design, this chest of drawers from the “Pellicano” series is one of the most sophisticated and recognizable creations by visionary designer Vittorio Introini, who masterfully combined functionality, experimentation, and architectural rigor. Produced by Saporiti Italia around 1960, this chest perfectly embodies the innovative spirit of Italian modernism of the time. Crafted in walnut veneer with a warm, deep patina, the structure stands out for its sculptural and enveloping silhouette, featuring curved corners and finely crafted details that reveal a remarkable level of execution. The slightly domed top and tapered sides give the piece a sculptural elegance and visual dynamism that was highly unusual for its era. The front is composed of four spacious, perfectly aligned drawers, adorned with original chrome-plated metal handles made of vertical plates with double rings—adding a graphic and rhythmic note to the composition. The recessed base, set back from the main body, lends visual lightness to the whole volume, creating a refined play of solids and voids. Balanced proportions, noble materials, and a coherent design vision make this piece not only a functional storage unit but a true work of art. A rare collector's piece in the chest of drawers version—currently the only one available on the market—it is ideal for refined interiors, collector’s residences, or luxury contract spaces inspired by mid-century design. In near-perfect vintage condition as shown in the photographs, despite being over 60 years old.
