Fritz Nagel modular candlestick from the 1960s. In the 1960s, German design was experiencing a period of great experimentation, with objects that combined functionality and beauty in new and unexpected forms. Among the protagonists of this revolution was Fritz Nagel, a visionary designer who, together with César Stoffi, created one of the most iconic creations of the period: the Nagel modular candlestick.
Produced by BMF (Bayerische Metallwarenfabrik), this candlestick is not just a decorative object, but a true open design system, designed to be combined in infinite configurations. Each module, made of chromed metal, can be stacked or arranged freely, creating ever-changing light sculptures. The idea behind this project was that of a dynamic and interactive design, which left room for the owner's creativity.
The set I propose is made up of 15 original modules from the 1960s, including a rare pocket emptier/candle holder base. These pieces are now highly sought after by collectors and lovers of vintage design, thanks to their brutalist and essential style that adapts perfectly to both modern and retro environments.
In addition to being a fascinating furnishing accessory, the Nagel candlestick is a historical testimony of the best post-war German design: an object that transcends time and fashion, maintaining its elegance and value intact.
