Great Venetian painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil artwork on canvas depicting a religious subject, the annunciation to the shepherds. Typical scene of the Bassano school in terms of subject and technique, characterized by a masterful use of chiaroscuro. Our painting in particular is a very high quality copy of a work by Francesco Bassano the Younger (1549/1592). Given the pictorial quality, it is presumably an artwork from the workshop of the famous Dal Ponte family (the artwork is not currently accompanied by expertise, but it is possible to request it upon payment of the relevant additional costs). It all started with Bassano the Elder, born in Bassano Del Grappa at the end of the 1400s and the tradition would continue with Jacopo Bassano and his sons until the 1600s. Note the quality of the drapery and the bright colors of the robes, the frightened and amazed faces of the characters at the sight of the angel are also really well painted. According to the Gospel of Luke, an angel announces the birth of the messiah to a group of shepherds who were with their flock near Bethlehem. The episode will then be followed by the adoration of the shepherds. Painting that has undergone conservative restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in some places (see photo). Overall in good condition.
