Carefree Coastal

Family Home di Sarah Barnard Design a Manhattan Beach, CA

Southwest inspiration abounds in this beachside home where rich sunset colors pair with oceanic blues to create a fun and fresh palette.

A custom storage bench upholstered in a deep teal linen textile creates a convenient spot for removing shoes just inside the front door, while a Dracaena Deremensis houseplant in a textured planter brings the outdoors in.

A custom getabako cabinet, handcrafted in American walnut, was created to function as a mudroom of sorts, storing everything from keys and gym bags to coats and dog leashes.

A contemporary, custom-made American walnut coffee table pairs with a sofa inspired by the sensibilities of William Morris. The peacock blue sofa textile is incredibly sturdy and perfect for a busy family with young children and dogs.

A perfectly rehabilitated vintage chair and ottoman c. 1960 have an ergonomic headrest and a concealed recline function, is paired with a one-of-a-kind petrified wood side table.

The solid walnut dining table was handmade by local artisans, especially for this project. The powder-coated steel base provides support and stability. A custom dining sofa in the softest of leathers was created to make this family-friendly, eat-in kitchen cozy and inviting.

Oceanic blues inspire contemporary warmth in this light and bright primary bedroom. The bespoke upholstered bed was custom quilted in a honeycomb pattern to add depth and dimension to the serene palette. Marble tops on the handmade Walnut nightstands ensure a low-maintenance space.

Antique ceramic lamps were rewired and fitted with custom linen shades, and an up-cycled dresser continues to serve the family as much-needed storage and features a collection of vintage and contemporary pottery.

A custom, marigold-hued sectional sofa with hand-sewn, contrast piping was designed to provide indoor comfort outdoors. Open-weave ottomans create lightweight, extra seating on this sun-filled roof deck, where scalloped concrete planters house a tiny succulent garden.
