Kevin Borland
This Bells Beach residence was designed and built in the mid seventies by famous Melbournian architect Kevin Borland, his influence came from Californian mid century architecture with a tendency to lean toward a beach style fused with origami design which was formed during the sixties.
One of three dwellings on the 10 acre property, this is more than the typical beach shack, with an abundance of cedar, mixed with various and pronounced angles throughout each section of the house, as seen in the layout, windows, walls and bespoke interior details.
Working alongside the era of the architecture and using it as a guide for the interior aesthetic, the mid century element of the furniture is a prevalent feature. A European twist is recognisable as to maintain an eclectic design element that was initially brought by Kevin Borland. Most of the decorative pieces are from the seventies, sourced from across the globe. The decorations bridge the gap to bring a warmth to an otherwise harsh surrounding environment.
