Nestled in the hills of Brentwood, with its grand stone and lumber walls, this family compound was originally conceived by renowned local builder Gary Byrd (one of the exemplary 'Byrd houses' of southern California). Its primitive materials captivate through curvilinear application; the entire residence is built around an ancient oak tree, which rises up through the roof next to the breakfast area. Our plan for this project was to inject refinement and elegance within the constraints of the existing furniture and architecture. Some pieces were sent out for reupholstery, walls were repainted, bathrooms remodeled, and kitchen surfaces lightened.
