Renovation of a storied Ladue, MO piece of history. We cleared out the rooms within the rambling residence making it more manageable and livable. We revised the use of spaces, repurposed formal spaces , lining up passageways to create elegant enfilade and pushed the boundaries of the predictable and staid traditionalist design elements residence and discovered quite a bit ot original integrity while introducing modern conveniences for entertainging.
The house itself was a study in archeological mysteries when it came to who, what, when, and why??? A succession of well-executed, but very owner specific additions made redesigning the antiquated or mostly underutilized areas into a series of synchronicities that helped us along the way. Minimal moves of doorways and demo added a lot by way of scale and symmetry. While wanting to respect the integrity of the original craftsmanship,
I pushed for bold lacquers, large checkerboard marble floors, and curated collection of pieces from periods and styles that live effortlessly there as a nod to the quirky nature of the house prior to renovations. After editing and applying JLID's design philosophy that a curated space will always be more interesting and refined than that of a "decorated" one, the beige was "blah" but wre made it badass,
