Group Exhibitions Spain: 2016, The "5Contemporary" Paris gallery presented a group show at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Genalguacil, Spain. The show included important artists such as Françoise Schein, Mimouni and Pedro Castrortega. Born in Brussels , Françoise Schein left Belgium after studying architecture at the higher institute of architecture of the French community - La Cambre where she wrote her thesis on fundamental rights, then studied urban design at the Columbia University in the City of New York . She lived 11 years in New York where she begins a work on cartography territories. Subway map Floating on NY Sidewalk is his first monumental urban sculpture located at 110 Greene Street in SoHo (1985). At that time her works are abstract landscapes of cities, made up of networks, lines, trajectories, territories, founding texts and stories. They are constructed of very diverse materials and light. Returning back to Europe in 1989, she continues to work on what she calls her drawings-laboratories while beginning to integrate works in cities on civic themes, the main ones: at the Concorde metro station in Paris in 1991 and then in Brussels, Saint-Gilles , in 1992, these two projects took her to Lisbon in 1993 where she lived for five years and produced two monumental works (in azulejos) for the city of Lisbon at Parque metro station ( 1994) and another for the city of Stockholm at the Universitetet station (1998). She continues to travel to cities where she builds successively projects in Haifa , on the facade of the Beth Hagefen Jewish-Arab Cultural Center with Michel Butor (1994). Then she lives in Berlin where she builds the Westhafen station (2000) which takes her to Bremen to make her first human rights park, Rhododendronpark (2002). In 2005, she made the monumental Time Zone Clock in Coventry in 2005. Since 1999, she has also settled in Rio de Janeiro and initiated participatory artistic projects with the underprivileged population of the favelas . Since then, with the help of a locally trained team, many projects have been carried out, including one in Copacabana and more than 20 in different favelas (from 1999 to 2016). These works transformed the Rio workshop into sustainable development for the people who invested it. In Sao Paulo, since 2009, Françoise Schein has produced a monumental work with the participation of 1000 young people from the favela schools at Luz subway station. Her work is monumental recalling the works of Christo, Maria Dompe, Christian Boltanski, Anish Kapoor, Ai Wei Wei...

Keith Haring Party of Life 1986 (Keith Haring Palladium 1986)
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Keith Haring Party of Life 1986 (Keith Haring birthday invite 1986):
Rare original invitation silkscreened on shorts to Keith Haring’s third annual Party of Life/1986 birthday, held at New York’s, The Palladium nightclub, May 21 1986 (see below for history). A historic 1980s Keith Haring collectible that makes for a nice addition to any 1980s Keith Haring collection. A rare, unused example in very nice condition. Silkscreened shorts. Size: adult extra small; approximately 14x21.5 inches. Very good overall vintage condition; appears unused for the most part; minor staining in a few areas (visible from upfront only). Difficult to find as such. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Further Background: Keith Haring held a birthday party each year from 1984 to 1986 called ‘Party of Life’. Filmmaker Courtney Harmel captured the inaugural event, which was held on 16 May at the Paradise Garage nightclub on King Street, New York. The party was co-hosted by Larry Levan, resident DJ at the club from 1976 to 1987. Levan developed a cult following and is credited with introducing dub into dance music. The party featured performances by Madonna and performance artist John Sex. Madonna, wearing a pink suit covered in an elaborate web of black lines painted by Haring and LA II, sang ‘Dress You Up’ and ‘Like a Virgin’, which she released later that year. Keith Haring was an American artist and social activist known for his illustrative depictions of figures and symbols. His white chalk drawings could often been found on the blank poster marquees in New York’s public spaces and subways. “I don't think art is propaganda,” he once stated. “It should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it.” Born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, PA, he grew up in neighboring Kutztown, where he was inspired to draw from an early age by Walt Disney cartoons and his father who was an amateur cartoonist. Haring moved to New York in the late 1970s to attend the School of Visual Arts, and soon immersed himself in the city’s graffiti culture. By the mid-1980s, he had befriended fellow artists Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and collaborated with celebrities like the singer Grace Jones. Diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 1988, Haring’s prodigious career was brief, and he died of AIDS-related complications on February 16, 1990 at the age of 31. Before his death, Haring established the Keith Haring Foundation, a non-profit committed to raising awareness of the illness through art programing and community outreach. Throughout his career, Haring made his art widely available through the location of his murals, as well as through the Pop Shop—Haring's own storefront which he used to sell his memorabilia. The artist’s mural Crack is Wack (1986), can still be seen today on a retaining wall along FDR Drive in Manhattan. Haring’s works can be found in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. Alice in Grayland
Located in New York, NY
Alan Shields Alice in Grayland, 1979 Mixed media collage: Etching, aquatint, screen print with stitching and collage on hand made paper Hand signed, dated, titled and numbered 1/13 by Alan Shields on the front Unique variant This very unique and imaginative mixed media paper collage with stitching and fabric is floated and framed in a museum quality white wood frame with UV plexiglass. It is hand signed, dated, titled and numbered from the limited edition of 13 - but each is a unique variant. Frame included: Measurements: Frame: 27.75 x 22.5 x 2 inches Artwork: 23.5 x 18 inches Catalogue Raisonne: K. Tyler Tyler Graphics: Catalogue Raisonné, 1974-1985, New York: Abbeville Press, 1987. p. 289. Alan Shields came of age artistically in the late 1960s in New York. Expanding the boundaries of Minimalism, he became known as a master of aesthetic invention through his wide-ranging exploration of materials and techniques. His mixed media works often contain combinations of traditional silkscreen processes combined with found materials. New York Times critic Roberta Smith wrote in her 2005 obituary for the artist: "Mr. Shields's work combined expanses of gorgeous stained color, reminiscent of Helen Frankenthaler's canvases, with the humbler crafts and a Gypsy sense of portability." Critic Robert Hughes has described Shields as a brilliant bricoleur who could, and often did, make art out of just about anything. He became an innovative printmaker, experimenting with handmade paper and turning out editions in which each print was unique. After his passing, Shields was awarded a Judith Rothschild Foundation grant given to recently deceased abstract artists whose work is of the highest quality but merits further recognition. About Alan Shields: Alan Shields (b. 1944, Herington, KS; d. 2005, Shelter Island, NY) created unique, imaginative, and theatrical structures using unconventional materials and vibrant color. His three-dimensional paintings convey a playful, deconstructive impulse through the incorporation of un-stretched hand-dyed canvas, rope, yarn, beads, and wood. Shields moved to New York City in 1968, where he showed with Paula Cooper...

This publication provides vivid documentation and a perspective of the extent of the project by the Bulgarian artist. His personal view, as expressed in The Guardian: "Artist - and above all architects - seek permanence," he said. "I don't. I like leaving nothing. That takes courage." His projects were funded mainly by selling preparatory drawings, always refusing sponsorship. Christo forbade the Three Tenors...

Jack Hooper "Women with Colored Blanket" January 1, 1970 Gouache and marker
Located in Arp, TX
Jack Hooper "Women with Colored Blanket" January 1, 1970 Gouache and marker on paper 12"x14" unframed Signed and dated in pencil lower left In this 1970 artwork by Jack Hooper, an enigmatic figure takes center stage. Rendered in gouache and marker, the woman, devoid of facial features, stands draped in a vivid, oversized blue coat that highlights her distorted form. Her long black hair adds a sense of mystery to the composition. In the foreground, a multi-colored blanket with a striking bright pink edge provides a captivating contrast. Hooper's minimalist approach invites viewers to ponder questions of identity and perception through this subtly compelling piece. Gold-Plated Earrings
Located in New York, NY
Tom Otterness Gold-Plated Earrings, ca. 1995 Pair of gold-plated earrings Signed with incised signature TOM OTTERNESS on the verso of the circular penny shape. 1 3/4 × 1 1/4 × 1/4 inches Unframed An irrepressible and unforgettable gift. These anatomically correct, signed vintage gold plated earrings of figures dangling from a replica of a U.S. penny by public sculptor Tom Otterness are real collectors items. Although the edition is unnumbered, the artist has stated that approx 200 were created. The artist has also confirmed to us that these earrings were originally made as gifts to close personal friends and associates, so he did not sell them on the open market and did not make them again after the initial group. They are quite rare and desirable. In 2013, these works sold at Phillips auction house for US  $2,750. Wonderful, racy conversation pieces. Wearable art which would also look terrific framed hanging in a small shadow box. About Tom Otterness: Tom Otterness was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1952. He came to New York City in 1970 to study at the Arts Students League, and in 1973 took part in the Whitney Independent Study Program. In 1977 he became a member of Collaborative Projects, a pioneering community of independent artists, and took a leading role in organizing Colab’s 1980 Times Square Show, which was called “the first avant-garde art show of the ‘80s” by the Village Voice. Otterness is one of a handful of contemporary artists invited to design a balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, for which he devised a tumbling Humpty-Dumpty in 2005. Otterness lives and works in New York. Otterness may well be “the world’s best public sculptor,” as the art critic Ken Johnson opined in the New York Times in 2002. Public art is his focus, and Otterness has had major outdoor exhibitions of his sculptures on the Park Avenue Mall in New York (2003), in more than a dozen sites in downtown Indianapolis (2005), on the grounds of the Beverly Hills city hall (2005-06) and throughout Grand Rapids, Michigan (2006). His first solo exhibition, held at Brooke Alexander Gallery in New York in 1983, featured elements of The New World (1991), a white plaster frieze of 250 nude “Ur-people,” as essayist Hayden Herrera called them, eventually destined for the plaza of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in Los Angeles, a General Services Administration commission. In the U.S., Otterness has completed at least three dozen public commissions, including Life Underground (2004), his celebrated multi-figural bronze sculpture installation for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Agency at the 14th Street station on the Eighth Avenue subway lines. His international commissions include public plazas in Münster, Germany (1993), Toronto, Canada (2007), and Seoul, South Korea (2010), and a large public park in Scheveningen, the Netherlands (2004). In 2013, Creation Myth, a gateway park for the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, N.Y., was dedicated. Otterness has exhibited his work at John Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco, and other important contemporary art galleries. His most recent exhibition, Metal on Paper: Silverpoint, Copperpoint & Steelpoint Drawings, opened at Marlborough in September 2015. Works by Otterness are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Eli Broad Family Foundation, the Brooklyn Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Carnegie Museum, the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and others. He was elected a member of the National Academy in 1994. Most recently, Otterness has installed The Tables from the collection of the Whitney and 50 new sculptures in niches at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, as part of the group exhibition, The Value of Food. On a personal note, Otterness has practiced Tai Chi, martial arts, and boxing in the school of William C. C. Chen since the 1970s, and his studio features a boxing bag...

Tribute to Bix Beiberbecke Mixed media collage, 1974 Signed and titled in ink; lower right recto (see photo) Signed and dated ’74 in red crayon verso Image size: 32.5 x 22.75 inches Condition: Wrinkles due to collage and support sheet Provenance: Joseph Erdelac, Cleveland (friend and patron of Longstreet) One of the first Jazz Legends. He died at age 28 from alcoholism. Leon Bismark "Bix" Beiderbecke (March 10, 1903 – August 6, 1931) was an American jazz cornetist, pianist, and composer. Stephen Longstreet (1907-2002) Born Chauncy Weiner (sometimes spelled Wiener) in New York City in 1907, Longstreet reinvented himself on a regular basis. Changing his name first to “Henry,” then “Henri,” he started his career as a commercial artist for a department store. In various public biographies he claimed to have studied in New York, London, and Paris, and said he was a student of cartoonist Ralph Barton (1891-1931). Facts that can be documented are that he was art editor for Golfer and Sportsman magazines, and was a contributor to various other magazines including The New Yorker, Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, Life, and Hooey, among others. He wrote sketches for NBC radio and the Rudy Vallee Show. In the 1930s, Longstreet worked and wrote under the names Thomas Burton, David Ormsbee, and Paul Haggard...

"Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art", (Hand Signed) British Pop Art historic event
Located in New York, NY
DEREK BOSHIER "Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art", (Hand Signed), from the Collection of Art Critic Anthony Haden-Guest, 1971 Lithograph mounted on franked envelope of wove paper (Hand Signed) 6 × 9 in 15.2 × 22.9 cm Limited Edition of 250; hand signed and numbered 24/250 Signed in ink lower left of the lithographic stamp affixed to the envelope, and hand numbered 24/250. From the series The Post Office Worker's Strike Commemoration Stamps Unframed The artwork consists not just of the signed, limited edition Boshier postage "stamp", but also the franked envelope, which it is affixed to, with the stamps as described above. The entire mixed media piece is far more desirable than the stamp alone. As a consequence of the prolonged strike by the Royal Mail postal workers in the United Kingdom, Derek Boshier along with a group of British artists including Allen Jones, David Hockney, Christopher Logue, Eduardo Paolozzi and Richard Hamilton, published ''Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art''to raise funds for the striking workers. The "stamps" were published in a limited edition of only 250, with Derek Boshier signing each by hand in black ink with his initials on the lower left. This particular stamp is also numbered 24/250. The stamp itself measures 3.25 by 2.75 inches, and it is affixed to a franked (postmarked) envelope which measures 6 inches by 9 inches, bearing the stamped text "Culture Carriers 23 Feb 1971" on the top left, and the stamp "CULTURE CARRIERS STAMP OUT ART" on the lower left (front). and the stamp "STRIKE ISSUE" lower right front of the envelope. Very desirable as an ensemble. these were known as The Post Office Worker's Strike Commemoration Stamps. This particular piece has superb and interesting provenance, as it came from the private collection of the American art critic Anthony Haden-Guest. As additional provenance, we will furnish the buyer with a xerox copy of the receipt from Flair Magazine...

Untitled Chevron Collage, de-accessioned from the Honolulu Museum of Art
Located in New York, NY
KENNETH NOLAND Untitled, for Trustees of the Honolulu Museum of Art, 1984 Mixed Media collage with silver and colored foil on board. Signed on verso (back) with personal inscription. "for Twig and Laila" (Trustees of the Honolulu Museum of Art), Deaccessioned from the Honolulu Museum of Art Collection Inscription done in black marker and reads: "A Little Exercise For Twig and Laila With Thanks For A Wonderful 3 Days At ' Cedar House' On The 'Big Island'... 1 Sept 1984 Honolulu Hawaii." Frame included Measurements Framed: 12.5" x 12.5" x .3" Artwork: 8.75" x 8.75" This reflective Chevron collage was de-accessioned by the Honolulu Museum of Art. In 2018, it was exhibited in the show "On Black Mountain: The Bauhaus Legacy in America", April 5, 2019-April 27, 2019 at the Sager Braudis Gallery in Columbia, Missouri, and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Unique signed and dedicated mixed media collage with silver and colored foil on board by the important Color Field painter Kenneth Noland. It's quite a dazzling work, combining color field, geometric abstraction with Op Art, as the work changes appearance and color with the reflected and refracted light. - sometimes appearing light; sometimes darker. See the photos -- there's a light one and a darker one - and they both depict the same work. What's so impressive is that this work literally changes color depending on how the light reflects against it. The artist wrote a personal and heartfelt inscription on the verso to "Twig and Laila". (Twig (sic), which the artist deliberately misspells, is Thurston Twigg Smith, former publisher of The Honolulu Advertiser, who was married to New York philanthropist Laila Twigg Smith. Laila had lived in Hawaii since 1970, where she and her husband had put together a substantial collection of contemporary art. Unfortunately, the two divorced in 1996 and soon after she returned to New York. Two years later, in 1998, Laila died of liver failure at the young age of only 53. Laila was a major philanthropist and art collector who moved from Manhattan to Hawaii. She was a board member of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and a major donor the Honolulu Museum in Hawaii. Laila donated the present Ken Noland...
