Dinh Hanh

Dinh Hanh studied art at the prestigious Hanoi Academy of Fine Arts. His stunning works are the result of his use of the traditional technique of multi-layered lacquer on wood. The subject of Hanh’s work is usually a woman or women, often in a tucked position. The shapes and lines of his subjects very much bring to mind Matisse’s nude blue series, with a golden twist. Hanh’s work has been seen in shows around the world from London to New York, to Brussels and of course Vietnam.

In the latter part of the 20th century, contemporary movements included Land art, in which artists like Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer create large-scale, site-specific sculptures, installations and other works in soil and bodies of water; Sound art, with artists such as Christian Marclay and Susan Philipsz centering art on sonic experiences; and New Media art, in which mass media and digital culture inform the work of artists such as Nam June Paik and Rafaël Rozendaal.
