A Christian Dior Lace Couture Gown Collection Ligne Oblique (?) Circa 1950

About the Item

Ligne Oblique Collection (?) Circa 1948/1950 Paris France A Collectible Calais black lace cocktail or ceremonial dress by Christian Dior. Black and white transparency effect obtained by superimposing a black bouquets lace on a cream taffeta lined with cream tulle. High fitting bodice tight waist and hips. Very fine pleated work on the small balloon sleeves and on the chest adorned with five matching buttons and a flat knot. Oblique effect with pleats which goes down on the hips at the back. Cream tarlatane lining in the bottom of the skirt amplified by two ecru cotton tulle underskirts, then by a tarlatane petticoat, and a cream taffeta underskirt. Black woven label, white graphics Christian Dior Paris. Very Good condition and Color. It all started when the editor of the Harper'Bazaar cried out in 1947 (It's quite a Revolution, dear Christian! Your dresses are wonderful, they have such a New Look!) - Announcing the start of a first revolution of the post-war fashion. Christian Dior, as in the model presented here, is inspired by flower curves to design his dresses. Her first period of creation, which we usually assess between 1947 and 1950, developed the theme of the flower woman with a strong reference to the 18th and 19th centuries. He successively declined the lines “Corolle” and “En 8”, “Envol” and “Zigzag”, “Ailée”, “Trompe l'oeil” and “ Milieu de siècle”, “Vertical” and “Oblique”, the collection to which this dress probably belongs. Gianni Versace was an influential Italian fashion designer who founded the Versace brand. In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house. Which was heading away from the bombshell curves and souped-up sex appeal that the house previously focussed on. But took more Inspirations to the new wave John Galliano and Mcqueen were leading.
