Oscar de la Renta pearl white silk couture cocktail dress, circa 1980s

About the Item

Oscar de la Renta was trained by Critobal Balenciaga and at Lanvin under Antonio del Castillo. Over five decades he made fashion that was elegant, based on the tools of the trade that he learned in Spain and in Paris. He always designed with the ultimate motivation that women must look and feel beautiful. This beautiful silk dress featuring a velvet belt adorned with acrylic diamanté shows the latin influence characteristic of the couturier’s fashion designs. There is just an hint of the flourish of the old world of Spanish bullfighting style but combined with exquisite fashion craftsmanship. The material is a luxurious silk material embossed with scintillating dots . Slightly gathered sleeves contributes to create a feminine and sculptured silhouette. Adorned with a perfectly geometric neckline this dress will make a woman feel elegant and modern.

  • Yves Saint Laurent Chinese collection baroque print satin dress, 1977
    By Yves Saint Laurent
    Located in London, GB
Yves Saint Laurent's Chinese collection corresponded with the launch of the fragrance Opium. Similar to previous folkloric inspired collections, the Chinese collection is also about a release of imagination, dreams and the mystery that foreign lands evoked. This cheongsam dress, a modern Chinese garment, in Yves Saint Laurent's collection symbolises the exotic and erotic Shanghai nightlife of the 1920s-1930s. The unique cut of the dress features a slit that can be unbuttoned all the way up to the shoulder to seduce, reveal and celebrate feminine sensuality. Constructed from the most fluid and luxurious satin material, the cheongsam, it is adorned with jet buttons and trimmed with braids on the cuffs, hem and collar. Lined with jet black fluid satin material the dress looks and feels luxurious. The print gives an iridescent surface pattern, that suggests the iconography of woven and embroidered imperial Chinese dragons robes...
