What is quadruple silverplate?

1 Answer
Quadruple silverplate is the term for flatware, serveware and decorative objects made with a specific electroplating technique. The electroplating process begins with a base metal that an artisan then adds a layer of pure silver to. With quadruple plating, the artisan applies an extra-thick layer of silver, giving it four times the silver content of standard silverplate. Silversmiths known for producing quadruple silverplate include the Meriden Britannia Company, Reed & Barton and Rogers Brothers. Find a diverse assortment of silver wares on 1stDibs.
