Painter and lithographer born in Paris in 1913, Jean Pons studied at the École Estienne, a graphic arts school in Paris. In 1938, he founded his first lithography workshop in the Montparnasse district. Skilled practitioner, Jean Pons is among the most gifted lithographers of his generation. He magnified this technique by collaborating with the great names of the New School of Paris. The major artists of the second half of the twentieth century from various pictorial backgrounds such as Nicolas de Staël, Serge Poliakoff, Hans Hartung and Pierre Soulages frequented his workshop, which quickly gained international fame.
In parallel to his activity as a lithographer, Jean Pons developed a more personal artistic activity and devoted himself exclusively to painting from the 1970s. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Indépendants in 1932 and his first solo exhibition was held in 1952 at the Suzanne Michel Gallery in Paris. He regularly exhibited his paintings alongside those of artists with whom he also collaborated (Charles Lapicque, Jean Messagier).
Several periods have marked his life as a painter. Initially influenced by cubism, fauvism and then expressionism, he moved towards abstraction in 1948 before returning to figuration at the end of the 1950s, painting in an increasingly personal style. Jean Pons also approaches various techniques such as collage while remaining eternally faithful to the chromatic intensity. Also, his graphic work, which follows the evolution of his work as a painter and lithographer, is very important.
The drawing that we propose seems close to the universe of Max Ernst and Jean Arp. One guesses an anthropomorphic figure.

Jean Pons
Jean Pons was born in 1913 in Paris and died in 2005. He was a great French artist of the 20th century. In 1938, he founded his lithography studio which allowed him to work with all the great artists of the century such as Nicolas de Staël, Serge Charchoune, Robert Delaunay, Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky and Serge Poliakoff. In parallel, Jean created his pieces in an Expressionist style. Later on, he started working on classic subjects like dead nature, landscapes and portraits. In the late 30s, he turned towards abstraction and practised different techniques including collage and mixed techniques. But this period lasted only a short time and under the influence of the New Figuration movement, he took a figurative style. He kept his predilection for bright colors although his choice of colors softened gradually.
