About the Item

About the piece: Dynamic works from a simple palette. It never ceases to amaze me how such vibrant and lively works can evolve from a small range of inputs. INVITED The Lakeland Art Guild was founded in 1952 and is the oldest community organization in Polk County, FL. For the past 48 years, the LAG Melvin Gallery Art Exhibition has hosted some of the most talented artists from all over the region. This year, for the 49th Exhibition, the LAG has gone national. We are proud to present to you the Lakeland Art Guild 49th Annual Melvin Gallery Art Exhibition, which features an enormous amount of talented artists from all over the United States! Single white mat. 20Hx16W Words that describe this piece:outsider, intuitive, dynamic, juried, exhibit, abstract, landscape, expressionist Artist Biography: Mark A. Lembo Script M Abstract Art Mark’s dynamic work blurs the distinction between alcohol ink and watercolor - working with dyes, inks, liquid acrylic, liquid watercolor, and other aqueous media; lately, he has been incorporating metallic watercolor and pearlescent ink to his work. He has used canvas, synthetic Yupo™ paper, Yasutomo Mineral Paper, and various watercolor papers. Mark’s journey into the world of creative arts started with the question, “What would Jackson Pollock’s work look like if he had used transparent watercolors?” So, it was out with the pencils, pens, and brushes, and on to the pouring of various aqueous solutions. While mostly self-taught, Mark took a series of classes at the Creative Arts Group, Sierra Madre, CA, under Joe Stoddard, as well as seminars with Robert Burridge and Marciano Martinez. Along the way, Mark has been influenced by the work of two controlled pouring advocates: Bette Ridgeway and Ibrahim Bassmi. His work has both dynamic and passive qualities. While the colors may be aggressively administered, little attempt is made to control the flow or interactions – save the application of masking fluid. While the bulk of Mark’s work is abstract, he does some occasional representational works to ‘cleanse the palette.’
