About the Item
My drawings and paintings are an examination of three major elements - color, surface and mark making. These nonrepresentational pieces give me the freedom to concentrate on and investigate more thoroughly the process by which I make them. The Circle Drawings and Stripe Drawings are done on translucent vellum giving the works a diffused feel. They are a continued study of color, surface, and line and concentrate on the underlying structure of the work. Keeping with a long tradition of color investigation these pieces examine unlikely combinations with often unexpected results.
The process of drawing on vellum coated with turpentine does not allow for reworking a piece. Once the liquid dries the work is complete and any further painting would destroy the look. This time element keeps the pieces fresh and allows for very few changes during the process. These pieces are the product of a precise idea combined with a spontaneous execution.
This piece is 17x14 inches and is not framed.
