Artist Comments
Artist Heejin Sutton portrays a small white fox sitting on top of a geometric plane with purple corals growing at the bottom. "I placed two objects that can not be seen together in real life to present the imbalances and irregularities in our world," explains Heejin. "Hate and love, good and evil, joy and sorrow. However, in my painting, the imbalance is hidden. Instead, tranquility, peace, and happiness stand out. I want to show the happiness and peace we continually pursue and long for, even in the middle of this imperfect world."
About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.
