Skillful late 19th century realist drawing of illustration Newspaper artists at work at the Republican National Convention by Adolph Methfessel (American, 1876-1912)., c.1898. This piece depicts a group of men working at their desks in an office at the Republican National Convention of 1898 at Sacramento, California, expertly rendered by the steady hand of a skilled illustrator. Signed in the lower right corner. Presented in an oak frame with a cream mat and black backing. Board size: 7.5"H x 13.5"W Methfessel was born in Staten Island, New York in 1876, and became an accomplished painter and illustrator. His many publications also include the New York Journal 1897, San Francisco Examiner 1898-1911 and The Call 1898-1911, and the Famous Hale magazine San Francisco of one Christmas edition 1899. Exhibited, Jinks Room, San Francisco Press Club Art Exhibit, Feb & May 1900, State Convention of the Republicans, Sacramento 1898.
