About the Item

Study for L’Asino is an original drawing in pencil and pen realized by Gabriele Galantara. The state of preservation of the artwork is good, except for some missing piece of paper on the margins. Included a Passepartout: 35 x 50 cm. The artworks represents a cityscape with a crowd, skillfully expressed in quick and confident strokes, this is one of the studies for the Italian l'asino magazine. Gabriele Galantara (1867-1937), journalist and one of the major Italian caricaturists and satirical designers. The Donkey was a political satire magazine in 1892, the year of the first Giolitti ministry and the establishment of the Italian Socialist Party, The magazine was conceived by Guido Podrecca,and by Gabriele Galantara, brilliant cartoonist and puppeteer, also a socialist. The two assumed the pseudonyms of "Goliardo" (Podrecca) and "Rata Langa" (Galantara), and with these nicknames, they signed the issues of the weekly.
