Ganesh Pyne
Untitled, Pen & Ink on Paper, Black color by Modern Indian Artist "In Stock"

About the Item

Ganesh Pyne - Untitled - 8.25 x 11 inches (unframed size) Pen & Ink on Paper Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Initially, Pyne painted watercolors and sketches of misty mornings and wayside temples, variously influenced as he was by Walt Disney and the art of Abanindranath Tagore. He counts Hals Rembrandt and Paul Klee as the other influences. His signature style shaped from his own experiences of solitude, alienation, pain, horror and moods of tenderness and serenity comes to surface in each of his works. At times, these images are offshoots of an idea that may have flitted through his mind. At others, they resonate lines from poems that may have made an impression on his mind. The lines are bold, precise, controlled and the drawings that emerge are potent both in form and content. Stripped of color, they convey the architectonic quality in the structuring of the images. About the Artist and his work : Born : Ganesh Pyne (1937 – 2013) was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Education : Also during his childhood years, he flipped through, Mouchak, a Bengali children's magazine, which his family subscribed, he came across a printed drawing by Abanindranath Tagore, the its founder of Bengal school art movement, this had deep impact on him, and he started reading avidly and drawing on his black slate with chalk for hours.[3] However, much greater impact was to come in 1946, first his father died early in the year, and his family was caught up in the Calcutta riots, which preceded the partition of India, and they had to be escorted to a safe zone at the Calcutta Medical College. This trauma at age 9, had a lasting impact on his life and work. He studied at Government College of Art & Craft, an educational institution closely associated with Bengal School of Art, and graduated in 1959. Exhibitions & Shows : 1968 : World Youth Festival', Prague 1968 & 71 : Indian International Triennial, New Delhi 1970 : Paris Biennial, Paris & Exhibition in aid of Menuhin School of Music, Royal Academy of Arts, London. 1975 : International Festival of Art, Cagnes-sur-Mer. 1982 : 'Modern Indian Painting', Hirschhorn Museum, Washington DC & 'Contemporary Indian Art', Festival of India, Royal Academy of Arts, London. 1982 & 86 : 'Indische Kunst Heute', Darmdstadt, Germany 1996 : 'Chamatkar – Myth and Magic in Indian Art', curated by CIMA Gallery, Whiteleys Art Gallery, London 1997 : Tryst with Destiny – Art from Modern India', Singapore Art Museum, Singapore & 'Image beyond Image' travelling exhibition of Indian paintings from the Glenbarra Art Museum, Himeji, Japan to New Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore and Bombay. 2014 : 'Germinal', solo show of jottings, curated by Arun Ghose at India Art Fair 2014, New Delhi by Sanchit Art.
