Lynne Fernie
Antonia's Line (for Marleen Gorris) - black and white, abstract ink on paper

2011

About the Item

Antonia's Line, named after the Dutch film written and directed by Marleen Gorris. The film has been described as a "feminist fairy tale," tells the story of the independent Antonia who establishes and nurtures a close-knit matriarchal community. Perhaps in this painting you can see the narrative of different characters and behavior through pose. Fernie’s ink and latex artworks are graphic and dynamic. Energetic and spontaneous, her art references Japanese calligraphy and primitive figurative markings. An OCAD honors graduate and award-winning documentary filmmaker, Fermie has been the recipient of arts and film grants from the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council, and has been a jury member of Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council.
