The son of T.L.S. Rowbotham from whom he received lessons, he moved to England while young. In 1847 he toured Wales, and in the later years Scotland, Germany and Normandy. He was elected A.N.W.S. in 1848, and a Member in 1851. He succeeded his father as drawing master at the Royal Naval School, Greenwich.
In his earlier years he chiefly painted romantic landscapes and also marine subiects a little in the style of C. Bentley Later he painted Italian Lake views, although he had never been there. He published a number of chromolithographs. His son, C. Rowbotham often painted the figures in his compositions.

Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham
Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham was an Irish watercolor landscape and marine artist and lithographer. He was the son of the watercolor artist, Thomas Leeson Scrase Rowbotham. Born in 1823 in Dublin, Ireland, Rowbotham was trained by his father. His work has been exhibited at many prestigious galleries including, the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street Gallery.
