About the Item
"In the Artist's Studio" was painted in the realistic style in the late 19th century by the Scottish artist, George Clark Stanton. Stanton was a painter, watercolorist, goldsmith and sculptor born in Birmingham, England, in 1832. He studied at the Birmingham School of Art and later pursued training in Renaissance sculpture and ironwork in Florence. In 1855 he moved to Edinburgh.
Stanton is known for portraits and genre scenes often on a romantic, literary and historical theme. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. His work is in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
