Double Sided Watercolor on Paper, 1965, Woodland Interior and Maine Seascape

1965

About the Item

"Woodland Interior" and "Martinsville, Maine" is a double sided watercolor painting by American painter Ranulph Bye. One side features a thick interior woodland landscape, drawn in vibrant and heavy colors and brushstrokes, while the other side depicts a much softer and subtler seascape in Maine. The two paintings represent very dramatically different moods and styles. Both sides are signed and one is titled and dated. Signed Lower Right "Ranulph Bye" on one side, titled and dated on verso "Martinsville, Maine, July 30, 1965". This artwork is sold with the woodland landscape featured, but the frame is designed so the second painting can easily be turned over in the same frame and the seascape can be featured. Photograph of the framed artwork includes shadows and reflection. The artwork is in excellent condition. Provenance: Private collection, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ranulph Bye was born in 1916 in Princeton, NJ. He attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art, now Philadelphia College of Art, and the Art Students League in New York.
