This artwork "Napa Vineyard" c.2000 is a color pastel on paper by noted American artist Reif Ray Charles Erickson, 1949-2015. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist. The artwork size is 12.25 x 19.25 inches, Framed size is 24.5 x 31.5 inches. Custom framed in a wooden gold and black frame, with gold color bevel and fabric matting. It is in excellent condition, the frame has very minor restorations, practically invisible. About the artist: Reif Erickson graduated with honors from Gonzaga University with a degree in art. He later continued his study of painting with Sergei Bongart whom he credits with encouraging him to paint en plein aire. Erickson now paints outside ninety percent of the time. With his pastel landscapes Erickson seeks to capture locations in a new way. Erickson studies the landscape and searches for the unique, special quality of the place. He is pleased if a viewer who is familiar with the location pauses and notices something new in the way Erickson has captured the place. The artist has exhibited and won numerous awards. He has also authored two manuals for artists, "Four Steps to Master Color and Light; A Plein Air Approach to Better Landscapes" and "Color Only Exists in the Mind; The Phenomenon of Perception of Color and Light." Reif Erickson is a member of the California Art Club, the Sierra Pastel Society and a Distinguished Pastelist of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

    This artwork "Landscape with Lake" C.1940 is a pastel on paper by noted Russian/Canadian artist Alexander (Alexandre) Bercovitch, 1891-1951. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The artwork size is 17 x 23.25 inches, framed is 23.75 x 30.15 inches. The artwork is in excellent condition, the frame is damaged and will be replaced by a new similar frame before shipping. About the artist. Alexander Bercovitch was born in Kherson, Russia in 1891. In 1926 he moved to Montreal, Canada. He is known for a vibrant, expressionist painting style. His landscapes also show the strong influence of impressionism. His mediums are pastel, gouache, watercolour and oil. As a child he apprenticing in icon-painting with monks. He also studied at Jerusalem's Art School of Bezalel, the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, and the Bakst-Dobujiinsky school and Stiglitz Academy, both in St. Petersburg. He worked in Odessa and Moscow painting stage decorations, before moving to Turkestan to teach art. He was influenced by the German Symbolist Franz von Stuck, as well as David Burliuk, co-founder of the Russian Primitivist movement and Wassily Kandinsky. After moving to Montreal he worked in decorative painting and set design. In 1927 he participated in the annual Spring Show of the Art Association of Montreal, and in 1933 held his first solo exhibition. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis in 1964, studied at the University of Valencia in Spain in 1965, and at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia in 1966, in Rome in 1967, and received her Masters of Fine Arts in 1968. Shirley Cleary received her BFA Degree from Washington University in St. Louis and her MFA Degree from Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Philadelphia and Rome, Italy. She also studied at the University of Valencia (Spain) and the Corcoran in Washington, DC. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, has lived in Montana since 1971 and spends part of the winter painting and fishing in New Zealand. Her paintings have been featured in many publications including "American Artist", "Art West", "The Artist's Magazine", "US Art", "Inform Art", "Fly Fisher's Magazine", "Angler's Journal", "Disegnare & Dipingere" and in several issues of "Wildlife Art".
