French School 19th Century, Portrait of a young soldier, dated 1830, drawing

1830

About the Item

French School 19th Century, Portrait of a young soldier, dated 1830, Pencil and heightenings of white and red 26 x 19.7 cm oval view examined outside the frame, in good condition In its original framing 46.5 x 38 cm, numerous scratches on it There is a great deal of charm in this drawing of a young soldier, due for example to the fact that the model avoids the gaze of the artist and therefore of the viewer, which makes her fierce personality perceptible. The author of the work remains anonymous, although there seems to be a trace of a signature and date in the lower left-hand corner, which appear to have been erased; the date 1830 was added later in pencil. There is no doubt an explanation for this but it has been lost to us. It is in any case a beautiful portrait of great quality of execution.
