Bara Ndaw
Four Panel Mixed Media Abstract Montage, African, Senegalese Outsider Art.

2007

About the Item

A Senegalese four panel mixed media abstract painting by Bara Ndaw. Signed bottom right. Full certificate of authenticity with date and description signed by the artist to the back of the painting. An imposing and typical work by Bara NDAW. His impasto technique enhanced with warm colours along with the use of traditional fabrics and netting helps him tell us about his environment where tradition, storytelling and the supernatural come together. Wonderful texture and depth to the work. Ndaw creates his works very much in the tradition of his native country where art and sculpture is characterized by abstraction and by the ideogram, through which the artist de-emphasizes the material aspect to give free rein to ideas and feelings; a sculptured gazelle, for example, may be represented solely by its horns and its neck, or an elephant may be depicted only by the immense fan formed by its ears and its trunk.

  • French Mixed Media Abstract on Canvas.

Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it. A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele. The background of the painting has been worked broadly with a palette knife whilst the detail has been added quickly and deftly with ink or finer brushstrokes. With the addition of newsprint (in French) the artist may...
