David Drebin - IF YOU FUCK THEM, Sculpture 2013

2013

About the Item

Series: Neon 40.5" x 53.5" x 6" - Edition of 9 Disarmingly blunt and intensely intimate, David Drebin's neon light installations illuminate hidden aspirations and secret thoughts of the femmes fatales who inhabit the elusive world of his iconic photographs. Housed in an acrylic box, Drebin articulates many truths that are often imagined yet not always shared through these mischievously artful pieces. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1996, David Drebin rapidly made a name for himself as an internationally renowned photographer creating images of movie stars, sports personalities and various entertainers and subsequently was commissioned for countless high profile advertising campaigns around the world. In a unique manner, David Drebin’s work combines voyeuristic and psychological viewpoints. He offers the viewer a dramatic insight into emotions and experiences which many of us have doubtlessly felt at some point in our lives. Drebin’s photographs are epic, dramatic and, above all, cinematic and have been collected around the world. In a unique and opulent way, Drebin stages femme fatales against the gigantic backdrops of cities such as Hong Kong, New York and Paris. The panorama of the big cities, which, due to their format, are a tribute to cinema, serve as cinematic settings. This sculpture will be shipped directly from the artist's studio.

  • Large Animal Wall Sculpture: 'Wormhole'
    By Gin Stone
    Located in New York, NY
'I am a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ecofeminism using fiber and mixed media constructions. My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend as inspiration for pattern and color, as well as charts, iconography, and satellite imaging.' -Gin Stone...
