About the Item
My series Take Me Out Of The Blue emerged from a specific set of letters written by my grandfather (whom I never met) to my grandmother while he was a young man serving in the US Army during World War I. At the center of war is the human being, striving to survive against both the bombarding threats and the harrowing sense of isolation war inevitably enforces. Still, there exists one abiding antidote to war’s cruelties--real human connection. It is these truths that radiate out from my grandfather’s letters and words, including when he wrote this to his beloved “Goldieâ€
