Using cut out pieces of canvas, paper, and clay collaged onto a larger canvas, this piece reflects the passage of time on material things. With terra-cotta and burnished brown palette, the piece reminds the viewer of some archeological discovery. As the viewer becomes more familiar with the piece, it grows and develops with time. The art work is framed in dark wood.
Jaime Suarez is one of the most important living contemporary artists in Latin America. Suarez is an architect, sculptor, ceramicist, visual, installation, and public artist. His public art commissions are in Europe, the USA and the Caribbean, including the iconic totem designed for the Quincentennial Plaza in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. His work is in major international museums and important private collections. Among his degrees are a B. Arch from Catholic University in Washing, D.C. and a master’s in Urban Design from Columbia University in New York City.
