About John Joseph Hanright
John Joseph Hanright is an American contemporary artist recognized for his mixed media work. He seeks inspiration from vintage advertisements and magazine headlines, as well as both comic books and high-class art from the 1960s onward. His complex visual narratives investigate the interpersonal dynamics between men and women, employing action as a metaphor for heroes and hookups. His work is densely layered, both in terms of imagery and content, with text, paint, and imagery. He draws on the nostalgia evoked by noirish comic book figures, as well as from magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Life, and Look. Reminiscent of artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, Hanright describes his work as “thought provoking, sexy, amalgamations of conceptual art, Americana, and pop culture.”
His work has been displayed at: LA Art Fair, Melanoma Foundation, Liberty Hotel, Montserrat College of Art Permanent Collection, Palm Beach Art and Design Show, Naples Art Show, Architectural Digest Design Show, Collaboration with Designer Campion Platt among others. Hanright’s work is in esteemed private collections both nationwide and worldwide. John Joseph Hanright holds a degree in Painting and Fine Art from Montserrat College of Art.
