Kari Souders
Blue Kyoto : mixed media collage on paper

2023

About the Item

Contemporary collage by Kari Souders. Kari Souders is best known for her ritualistic physical and structural approach to artwork that interweaves texture, form, line and color. Her process involves mapping, exploring organic constraints and seeking the possibilities in continuous systems. “I see my work as maps of the mind, the mind's inner landscape in which I interweave my conscious and unconscious regions.” The surfaces of her paintings are intensely worked until they appear both destructive and regenerative. Unearthing the painting's hidden layers allows actual interaction between the inside and outside of the painting. “My paintings expose my mental geography where through the imbrication of textures and movement I can interweave the topography of the brain and the outside world.”

Abstract work of art with figurative elements by Elizabeth Myers Castonguay. Her work is dedicated to creating art about human equality and preservation of the biodiversity of nature. This painting is a complex work of art that incorporates abstraction and figurative elements. One can notice images of books, human hands, bitten apple and even an entire beautiful landscape in this canvas. • "Poise" Life-Size Silhouette Portrait Framed Mixed Media on Canvas Painting
    Located in Baltimore, MD
"Poise" is a framed mixed media work on canvas by Christopher Peter, depicting an abstracted silhouette of a standing female figure. The artist's technique of layering paints, handmade papers, and gold leaf creates a luxurious texture and adds visual interest to both the silhouette and the negative space. This piece is finished in a silver scoop floater frame with a whitewashed woodgrain effect on the frame’s interior and sides. Pricing includes the pictured frame. Unframed dimensions are 72 x 36 inches. About the artist: Christopher Peter was raised in Phoenix and received his formal art education at Arizona State University. He joined galleries across the US and presented his first international exhibition in 2017 at Miami’s Art Basel. Well known for using unconventional materials, Christopher’s work focuses on painting figures and floral elements. Combining and blurring the boundaries between these disciplines, a personal narrative is created between the viewer and the work that hints at the artists’ ultimate goal of using painting...

"My work principally consists of deeply abstracted figure compositions--intuitive constructions that begin with random marks establishing larger masses of torsos, heads, and limbs in an undefined setting. The emphasis is almost purely on intuition. The figures are born of their surrounding environment, emerging only partially and fugitively from the layers of pigment. A narrative is evident but never overt. A crown, a shield, a boat, a wheel. Though the subject has recently coalesced around my reading of Dante and Shakespeare, the settings remain extremely vague- a beach, an interior, a woodland. The paintings are, in the end, meditations on the relationship between the protagonists in a wordless drama. In my paintings, I use a cold wax medium...
