About the Item
Laurie Litowitz was born in the suburbs of New York City in 1952. She graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut as a studio major. In her junior year she studied one semester at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts d’Aix en Provence, France and then she studied for two years at L’Università Internazionale d’Arte in Venice, Italy. Litowitz also lived in the former Yugoslavia for two years. She abandoned her gypsy life when she moved to Oaxaca in 1984 but she has continued to travel, including three trips to India. Being a hunter-gatherer, her trips give her ideas and new materials for her work.
