Linda K Schinkel and Theodore M Schinkel
Linda's friends and family relate how she was always painting, drawing and doodling. Yet it wasn't until she was 50 that Linda focused on her visual art practice as her life's mission. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the Literature, Science & Arts College at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI and earned her JD in 1979. She began collaborating with her eldest son Teddy in 2010 and her practice has evolved. Linda's art studies include at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, the Sorbonne University of Paris, Paris France, National Geographic in Sienna Italy, National Geographic Around the World Photography Intensive, and an Ox-Bow School of Art Residency, Saugatuck MI. Linda had an Artist Residency at Cranbrook - a leading center of art, education, and science - teaching and speaking, summer of 2023. Linda's works sparkle with synergy and sublime metaphysical connections. Gallery representation since 2004, she was published in “Style” and “Ambassador” magazines prior to being published with Teddy as an artist duo in multiple media publications including "The Wall Street Journal," "USA Today", and "World Wide Art Books". Linda attributes her unique works and career path from utilizing both sides of her brain. She followed her parents' use of right and left brain hemispheres. Linda received the 49th Distinguished Women’s Award from Northwood University, Midland MI, in recognition of her artwork. Teddy communicated through art from as early as age three. At age ten he won a short story competition about traveling back in time meeting Van Gogh in Arles, France. Teddy's life's purpose is an art practice focusing on sublime works assisting viewers in reaching hidden potential. Teddy's works - not entirely abstract, not entirely representative - are a hybrid reflecting opportunity and a growth mindset built on sublime messaging. Teddy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and Economics from Denison University, Granville OH. Additional art studies include at FAMU, Charles University Prague Czech Republic, College for Creative Studies, Detroit MI and Ox-Bow School of Art Residency, Saugatuck MI. Teddy had an artist residency at Cranbrook, a leading center for art science, and education, teaching and speaking, summer of 2023. He worked in the film industry in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit before committing to his visual practice. In 2010 Teddy envisioned creating collaboratively with his mother, Linda. Collaboratively creating with all ages, Teddy has taught and lectured at multiple schools. A work made while teaching currently hangs in the Detroit Mayor's office. Additional collaborative works are at Cranbrook, Bloomfield Hills, MI and Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills, MI and in private and business collections. Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841), the most prominent late 18th to mid 19th century Prussian artist is a familial ancestor. Teddy at age six, with his family and a small group of Karl's relatives, attended the first USA Exhibition of Karl's work at the Chicago Institute of Art, Chicago IL. The Exhibition greatly influenced the artists' work and is the namesake of their practice and gallery.

- Sons of BorrLocated in Detroit, MIInspiration for this triptych work is derived from a photograph made in Iceland and Norse origin mythology. Borr was the husband of Bestia and they had three sons Odin, Vili, and Ve. According to the legend, these three sons made heaven and earth. The Schinkel's work has underpinnings from a photograph they made at sunset from behind Icelandic waterfall Seljalandsfoss. The artists use of color fields gives rise to new beginnings and sparks timeless majestic feelings. The artists use their original artists process to achieve the illusion of three dimensions on 2D aluminum sheet metal. This mixed media work was made with the original artist process known known as Metalagram®. It was developed at the intersection of art + science, and old world skills + 21st century technology. The artists create sculpturally in layers rendering the dimensional interactive appearance viewers experience. The Metalagram® works appear differently from 180 degree vantage points and at varying angles of incidence as photons dance across the work. Lighting impacts this artwork with photons meeting the hand cut layered aluminum at different angles of incidence. Viewers' perception of the work changes as one navigates 180 degrees around the work. Spot lighting...Category

- Checkmate, inscribed copper sheet, acrylic paint, asphaltum, ink, metal frameLocated in Toronto, OntarioCHECKMATE by Rocky Dobey is a hand-inscribed copper sheet with black ink, acrylic paint, and asphaltum. It is framed in aluminum and measures 108 x 48”. It features some of the artist’s notable motifs – the number 13-1/2 (refers to 12 jurors, 1 judge, half a chance), a monstrous tower of brick with crenelated towers, inlaid with eyes, hooked daggers and barred windows, clouds with lightening bolts, tongues of flame drifting down... Though the swirl of black cloud near the top of the tower also rewards our attention – the engraving here suggesting floral as well as cosmic patterns, biological patterns. Checkmate also contains more subtle mark-making and ritualized ornamentation, such as the wheat sheafs across the expanse of copper, names of people are inscribed in the borders of the tower, vertical hash marks counting off months or years in bundles of five. For over 40 years, outsider artist Rocky Dobey has been producing intaglio prints, etched metal plaques, engraved copper sheets and site-specific public sculptures. Working anonymously for the first two decades, his work has drawn attention to social and political issues like prison and justice reform, neighborhood gentrification, globalization, indigenous sovereignty, drug rehabilitation and homelessness. With striking imagery of demonic towers toppled in flames, horrific machines and cryptic symbols of oppression, Rocky's work soon became a recognized and sought-after stamp of organized resistance. Several of his prints are held in collections, particularly the “Carnival Against Capitalism” poster he produced for the 2001 Quebec City protests against the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Rocky’s poster...Category
