Linda K Schinkel and Theodore M Schinkel
Match Point

2012

About the Item

This work nails the feeling one realizes when scoring the decisive point cinching a match. Sunrise on Isle Royale National Park, in the middle of Lake Superior bordering Canada, Wisconsin and Michigan, at Scoville Point on the Tobin Harbor was the location. Having scouted the previous day, the artists suspected this as a prime location for creating fantastical work. What the artists hadn't anticipated were the reflections - especially one in the shape of the state of MI - serendipitously creating small ponds from the night's rainfall. The artists used their original artists process, known as Metalagram®, to achieve the illusion of 3D on 2D aluminum sheet metal. This work was created at the intersection of art + science using old world techniques + 21st century technology. The artists created sculpturally in layers rendering the Metalagram® work to appear differently from 180 degree vantage points. At varying angles of incidence photons dance across the hand cut layered aluminum creating visual delights. This work was made in the artists' studio in the former Moross House Museum, the oldest brick dwelling in Detroit, MI, circa 1840.

Excerpt from the PACE Gallery Press materials: It is clear that Moix, a true Catalonian, has a rightful claim to the lineage that spawned the extraordinary draughtmanship of his Spanish predecessors- Goya and Picasso. “Part of the pleasure of this project on Quixote by Santi Moix is that it boldly closes the gap between writing and art, between the markmaking of the pen, the stylo, the etching tool, between the fiction of two absolutely distinct means of expression, and proposes instead a true imaginative domain in which unity is everything” – Adrian Dannati, 2008 Measurements: Frame: 22 x 27 x 1.5 inches Print: 19.5 x 25 inches Exhibition History: "Santi Moix: Don Quixote" at PACE prints from September 11 to October 4, 2008. Published by Pace Prints, in collaboration with the Institut Ramon LLull Provenance: PACE Editions, New York, NY This work is elegantly floated and framed in a hand made museum quality wood frame, finished with genuine gold leaf, under UV plexiglass.
