Lyndi Sales
Meteoric Rainbow

2021

About the Item

Meteoric Rainbow 2021 Embroidery thread, acrylic and wool on wood dimensions variable $300 per stick Lyndi Sales is an artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. She has been creating a series of installations and artworks for the past sixteen years. Her constructions made of intricately cut perspex, paper, rubber, fabric and stone often shed light on the fragile nature of our existence and temporality. Rainbows can be a symbol of disillusionment- an elusive goal that is always shifting, like the notion of the pot of gold that doesn't really exist. Gold is symbolic of Utopia and the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow that is often an illusion. The knobkerrie is a traditional South African symbol of a weapon, of status, and is a highly treasured personal object. In times of peace, it can be used for a walking stick, a symbols of defense and honor, as well as carried and used by protestors. By shrouding weapons with rainbow colour I attempt to beautify this very powerful and loaded object which is symbolic of South African struggle, protest and the striking lower class and justice.

  • Balloon Dog (Orange)
    By Jeff Koons
    Located in New York, NY
Balloon Dog is an iconic work within the highly acclaimed Celebration series, which JEFF KOONS began in the mid 1990s. The Celebration artworks reference certain times of year (holidays and birthdays) but also the celebration of the cycle of life. What else could suggest the cheer of children’s parties more eloquently than a colorful balloon, twisted into the instantly recognizable form of a dog. According to the artist, “It is about celebration and childhood and color and simplicity – but it’s also a Trojan horse. It’s a Trojan horse to the whole body of art work.” Balloon Dog has the profoundness of an archaic sculpture. The monumental Balloon Dog sculptures...
