Yelitza Diaz
Circles of Life, Original Painting

2023

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Yelitza Diaz presents a wall-bound sculpture with a rustic texture painted in shades of gray. Each of the four circles symbolizes the eternal and full-fledged hope that all human beings share. The figures sitting in varying positions within them represent the protection, movement, and adaptability that characterize man's existence. "This piece can go beyond the conventional and is not merely a sculpture to hang on the wall; it's a statement of life in its purest and most universal form."

About the Artist
Artist Yelitza Diaz creates sculptural modernist wall pieces where she incorporates ceramic figures. Born in Venezuela, her life has been wrapped in the arts since childhood. She finished her degree at the Arturo Michelena School of Fine Arts, where she grew passionate about the human form. Yelitza devoted her time to her artistic practice and shared her skill as an art teacher in public institutions. She founded a gallery with her husband in her hometown but moved to the United States due to bureaucratic and economic matters. Since then, she has explored human existentialism and the political and social developments of her native country. "My artwork represents the search for peace and emotional balance that we all desire in life," shares Yelitza. She retains a workspace in Venezuela but mainly works at her studio in South Carolina, where she has complete freedom to develop her art. Yelitza’s work has been awarded and recognized by national and international juries. She has also proudly designed the town seal for her native municipality in Venezuela.

  • Large Animal Wall Sculpture: 'Wormhole'
    By Gin Stone
    Located in New York, NY
'I am a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ecofeminism using fiber and mixed media constructions. My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend as inspiration for pattern and color, as well as charts, iconography, and satellite imaging.' -Gin Stone...
